Abstract
This paper proposes a 3-phase Input Power Factor Correction for Reduced Switch converter operation. The input capacitors should be small enough so that the voltages across them are discontinuous to achieve high input power factor. The converter switch have a lower peak voltage stress. The voltage stress in the proposed converter is limited to the peak value of the phase voltage of the input capacitors rather than the peak value of the line-to-line voltage, as is the case in the conventional converter. This reduction in the voltage stress is almost half of the conventional converter. The pulse width modulation technique is used to the reduction of THD value .This allows lower rated, standard devices to be used in the converters and reduces switching losses.
